Video as a Travel Companion

It's no surprise that consumers can't leave home without their devices. Even when traveling, consumers are connecting across devices and watching video.

While in transit, the majority of consumers are accessing the Internet. Connecting is highest during airplane and bus travel.

Q: When you use the following modes of transportation, do you connect to the Internet? This could be through public wifi, protected wifi, or personal mobile network (e.g., mobile 4G data).

And while they're in transit, consumers say that they watch video across the devices they take with them. Smartphones, which are always on and always connected, are the most commonly used device to watch online video while consumers are in transit.

Although consumers engage in a number of online activities — checking email, engaging on social media, and playing games — they are also watching a mix of long-form, short-form, and downloaded videos.

Q: What online activities do you do on each of your Internet-enabled devices while you are in transit (e.g., on a plane, on the train)? Please select all that apply.

When they've reached their final travel destination, they turn to consumer-generated videos to help them figure out where to go and what to do.

Q: Which of the following types of digital video help you while you are traveling on vacation?
